A wonderfully versatile tea
Enjoy it on its own or combine it with peppermint, fresh mint, lemon or a little honey for a personalised infusion.

Perfect for Moroccan Mint Tea

Naturally contains antioxidants
Green tea naturally contains polyphenols and other plant compounds with antioxidant properties.

The Story of Gunpowder Tea

Gunpowder Tea has been produced in China for centuries and takes its unusual name from the appearance of its tightly rolled leaves.

Traditionally, the leaves are rolled into small pellets during processing. This helps create the tea’s characteristic appearance and allows the leaves to remain compact until they are brewed.

Once hot water is added, the pellets gradually unfurl and expand, revealing the full tea leaves and releasing their aroma and flavour.

Gunpowder became particularly important in the development of Moroccan mint tea, where Chinese green tea was combined with mint and sugar to create the iconic drink associated with Moroccan hospitality.

Today, Gunpowder remains one of the most popular Chinese green teas worldwide.

How to Brew China Gunpowder Green Tea

For the best flavour, use approximately 2–3g of tea per cup.

  1. Bring freshly drawn water to approximately 80–85°C.
  2. Add 2–3g of Gunpowder Green Tea to your cup, teapot or infuser.
  3. Pour the hot water over the tea.
  4. Allow to infuse for approximately 2–3 minutes.
  5. Strain or remove the leaves and enjoy.

Important: Avoid using freshly boiling water directly on the tea, as excessive heat can make green tea taste harsh or bitter.

Traditional Moroccan Mint Tea

Gunpowder Green Tea is an excellent base for making Moroccan Mint Tea.

For a traditional-style preparation, combine:

2–3g Gunpowder Green Tea
Fresh peppermint or mint
Sugar to taste
Freshly drawn hot water

Allow the tea to infuse before adding plenty of fresh mint and sweetening according to taste.

Serve in small glasses for a traditional Moroccan-inspired tea experience.

Multiple Infusions

The tightly rolled leaves make Gunpowder particularly enjoyable for multiple infusions.

The first infusion provides a fresh and brisk flavour, while subsequent infusions can reveal softer and more subtle characteristics.

Adjust the brewing time and quantity to suit your preferred strength.
